Environmental perspectives on avocado cultivation in Michoacán: protection of fauna and sustainable development

Abstract

This work, of a theoretical nature, based on a qualitative approach, mainly addresses the impact of avocado cultivation on the population, the environment and the fauna affected in the region. Therefore, it will begin by pointing out that avocado cultivation has had a great boom in production in recent years, becoming one of the main economic activities in the region. It is also noted that this growth has had an important cost in social and environmental terms, since it has generated a process of displacement of the local fauna, which has been expelled from its habitat to make way for avocado plantations. It will also be noted that the intensive use of agrochemicals has generated a series of environmental problems, such as water contamination and loss of biodiversity. In addition, avocado cultivation has contributed to the deforestation of the region, which has had a negative impact on the ecosystem of the regions affected by the excessive cultivation of avocados. Finally, a series of measures will be proposed to mitigate the impact of avocado cultivation in the region, proposing the implementation of public policies that seek to promote sustainable economic development, protecting local fauna in accordance with the federal and state regulations analyzed.
