Multiple myeloma and its timely diagnosis using “CRAB” criteria

Among the various challenges faced as a primary care general practitioner, there is one in which timely diagnosis and knowing how to refer the patient to a specialist (in this case, to the Hematology service), can help extend the time. of life of said patients. The hematological disease known as Multiple Myeloma (MM), also known as “The only incurable cancer”, is a type of hematological cancer where the main cell is usually affected by mutations in chromosomes 4, 14 and 16 in the plasma cell. This type of cancer has the peculiarities of causing anemia, bone pain, fractures due to lytic lesions, fatigue, skull facies, in addition to other symptoms that lead patients to have a low quality of life. This article proposes an effective and precise scheme on how to correctly diagnose a patient with multiple myeloma as a primary care general practitioner.
