Those organisms that have undergone changes in their genetic material, or mutations, are called mutants. In the ever-changing world we live in, many organisms have had to adapt and evolve in order to survive, that is achieved through the mutations, however, when these mutations affect important genes for the proper functioning of living beings, diseases can be triggered or worse, they may become incompatible with the life. Thanks to scientific and technological advances in genetics, humans have gained the ability to induce mutations in living organisms, aiming to benefit humanity. However, while these genetically modified organisms offer potential advantages, their benefits must be carefully weighed against potential disadvantages.
