Abstract

All the symbiotic microorganisms that live in our body are known as microbiota. These organisms help us in many vital functions, such as digestion, the functioning of the immune system and even our mental health. When we have good eating habits, the intestinal flora is in a healthy state known as eubiosis. However, the habitual consumption of foods rich in sugars and fats, as well as the recurrent use of antibiotics, can alter this microbial community, causing an imbalance called dysbiosis. Currently, is known this close link between the brain and the intestinal microbiota (gut microbiota-brain axis), as well as its role in diseases such as obesity. Therefore, taking care of our microbiota is, in essence, taking care of our physical and emotional wellbeing, which we can achieve by avoiding the consumption of processed foods, promoting healthy eating and maintaining regular physical activity.
