Abstract

The relationship between nutrition and the immune system was identified in the last century, but the mechanisms behind this association are only now beginning to be understood. The immune system is responsible for protecting the body against invasion by pathogenic microorganisms and by the body’s own cells that become abnormal or defective. Nutrition plays a crucial role in modulating the immune response. Nutrients such as proteins, vitamin D, antioxidant vitamins Adequate nutrition strengthens the immune system, while nutritional imbalances weaken it, affecting resistance to disease.
